Course description

Global Perspectives: Media, Communications, and Culture

How is our world connected, and what does that mean for the way we communicate, understand different cultures, and see ourselves?

In this course, you'll explore these questions while experiencing the culture of the Czech Republic and Central Europe firsthand.

Through immersive activities, discussions, and engagement with local culture, you'll discover how everyday life in the Czech Republic can help you better understand global issues. Throughout the course, you will reflect on how your own culture, language, technology, media, and personal experiences shape the way you see and interact with the world.

This foundation helps students enter their internships with a better understanding of the culture, workplace, and people around them.

What students say

I had the opportunity to be exposed to a professional environment that I had never seen before and had the privilege of being able to create something of my own and actually get experience in the field...

I could not have dreamt of a better experience for this summer [regarding my internship at Czech Television]. I had the opportunity to be exposed to a professional environment that I had never seen before and had the privilege of being able to create something of my own and actually get experience in the field, which I have to say, I don’t know if I would have gotten that opportunity in the states. Everything about working at CTV and the internship seminar was incredibly influential and educational, and it truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
